What is Baby Alpaca Wool?
Alpaca fur is popularly used across many items in the modern day home and wardrobe thanks to its supreme softness, and sustainable, responsibly sourced and cruelty free nature. In fact, alpaca wool is perfect for scarves and shawls. It’s also a great choice for cushions, but as you’ll discover from our collection we don’t do our cushions by halves!
Here at So Cosy, we use baby alpaca wool to craft many of our cushion designs. But contrary to popular belief, the baby alpaca fur we use doesn’t come from a baby alpaca. Baby alpaca wool is the name given to alpaca fur taken from an alpaca’s very first shearing.
Why is Baby Alpaca Fur the Best of the Best?
Gathered from an alpaca’s very first shearing, baby alpaca wool is rarer and considered more valuable as a result. It’s not just the baby alpaca fur’s rarity that makes it extra special however, its physical characteristics also differ to alpaca wool. This luxurious fleece is, by nature, much softer than standard alpaca fur. With this, it can be easily manipulated and dyed for more decadent and rich end-product.
Its hollow structure means it’s lightweight yet strong, warm yet cooling to ensure the ultimate year-round accessory for your home. It’s also five times warmer than sheep wool, with its extra fine, soft and scratch free finish making it a real pleasure to have within any space.
How are our Baby Alpaca Wool Cushions Extra Special?
