We recently journeyed to the Victoria and Albert Museum (V&A) and were utterly inspired by one exhibition in particular. Tim Walker: Wonderful Things is a must-see for those who love art, artefact and fashion.
The exhibition is already the V&A’s latest blockbuster, and with more than 300 pieces to explore – Walker’s work ranges from images, contact sheets, and props to short films and scrapbooks – there’s a lot to love. A world of fantasy
As a quote from the exhibition itself states: “Ends are always followed by beginnings. Something new could start now right here. There really are so many wonderful things.” And the statement couldn’t be truer.

By entering Walker’s exhibition, you’re thrown into a world of pure fantasy. The entire exhibition is an immersive experience and proves that the photographer is indeed a master of magical realism.
The exhibition is fundamentally an escape from reality, and you will lose yourself in his creativity. His pieces show a different, and sometimes darker, side of fairytales, literature, and art. Walker’s unique style brings his subjects to life.
The man behind the magic
British photographer Tim Walker is a favourite with many high fashion titles, including Vogue, W and LOVE. He rose to fame in the 1990s shortly after graduating and worked as a freelance photography assistant before moving to New York.
There Walker’s talents were recognised by none other than Richard Avedon, a leading US fashion and portrait photographer credited with defining America’s style, beauty, and culture. He became Avedon’s assistant before returning to England to take his career to the next level.
With a passion for portrait and documentary photography, Walker worked for numerous titles but got his big break when he shot his first fashion spread for Vogue at the age of 25. Walker has dominated the worlds of fashion photography and art ever since and has hosted a number of exhibitions in the UK as well as creating short films.
