Looking forward yet moving back
While the Heimtextil Trends 25/26 guide – aptly named Future Continuous – offers a what’s what of innovation, we love how it doesn’t disregard the traditional techniques that still make our textile industry what it is. In fact, in our quest to be more sustainable, time-served processes and traditions could take centre stage as this quote taken from the Heimtextil Trends 25/26 book (which can be viewed in full here) describes:
“Moving away from extractivist modes of production will become a necessity, abandoning crude oil in favour of natural fibres. She quoted the Economist, claiming that ‘tomorrow’s factories may look more like weavers’ cottages than Ford’s assembly line’. Textiles will be repositioned to reflect a changed relationship with nature, fostering more sustainable, non-extractive, regenerative farming.”
The shift to embrace nature in all its glory is catching on, with the urge to recycle, reduce and reuse – or “restore, renew and replenish” – before buying new something we are truly excited about.

Craftsmanship reigns supreme
With the return to cottage industry comes a growing movement towards craftsmanship. By investing in crafted goods, you’re investing in more than just a great quality product. You’re showing your commitment to authenticity, ethical practices and trusted provenance, three qualities that just can’t be confirmed with mass-produced items.
A renewed interest in traditional techniques and materials is driving many aspects of the textile industry in exactly the right direction, with natural fibres crafted by locals the first choice over synthetic alternatives.
Alongside the natural wonders we call upon to craft our goodies, comes the resurgence of materials like hemp and the many environmental benefits it brings. Unbeknown to most, hemp grows super quick, absorbs carbon, regenerates the soil, and offers late pollination that is essential to bees and other insects.
Spaces that connect and comfort
The subject of spaces that tell a relatable story was further explored by Heimtextil, with acclaimed British interior designer Ilse Crawford sharing her insights into how, in an age of disembodiment, people have a “craving for human spaces, intimacy and care”, and this can be delivered by your choice of décor at home too.
Environments that “evoke a sense of belonging and comfort” are big news for 2025, with everything from tactile materials to the cosiest touches helping shape the very feeling of home.
Because “a stitch in time saves nine”
This motto is something we can and should live by, especially when selecting the homewares and textiles that make your space special. Foresight and care are after all important things, and integral to the design and production processes that both ourselves and our fellow textile businesses undertake.
By looking ahead to ensure sustainability and transparency are a part of the bigger picture, we can all foster a better textile industry and work towards making the systemic changes that shape this very sector both economically and ecologically.
