The history of Mother’s Day as we know it isn’t as far reaching as most people think. Whilst throughout history mothers have been celebrated in some way or another, Mothering Sunday only became an official annual event in 1908 after American Anna Jarvis spent years campaigning for a Mother’s Day holiday following the death of her own mother.
