The benefits of a good night’s sleep should never be underestimated. It’ll help you take on the day with confidence and clarity, as well as keep your mental and physical wellbeing in check. The impact of poor sleep quantity and quality can in fact have a devastating effect on an individual’s health as Sleep Foundation details:
“Not getting the amount of sleep your body needs can have serious consequences. Just one sleepless night can make it harder for you to focus and think clearly, and you might feel tired or sluggish during the day. You’re more likely to feel irritable and to exercise poor judgement when you haven’t had enough sleep. And sleep deprivation significantly elevates your risk of making a mistake at work or having a car accident.”
Avoiding these negative effects, and giving the gift of great sleep to yourself or someone special, really is as simple as switching out your bedding for something a little more natural…

Improving sleep quality with wool
Both sleep quality and quantity can be enhanced with wool, with bedding and cushions able to be called upon to create a more comfortable and restful sleeping environment. The unique structure of this amazing fibre actively traps air to boost breathability and insulation, which means your wool bedding can keep you warm during colder nights while preventing overheating during the warmer months.
Wool can also absorb up to 30% of its weight in moisture without feeling damp. It pulls sweat away from your body and releases it into the air so you don’t get that clammy feeling that can so easily disrupt rest. With things cooler and drier under cover, you’ll find it easier to fall asleep and stay asleep.
Wool’s resistance to dust mites, mould and mildew is another game changer, with its hypoallergenic nature making it the perfect bedding choice for everyone, including people with allergies, asthma and eczema. Last but certainly not least is the fact that wool is cosy and cushioning, providing the comfort you need to fully relax and slip into sleep.
The science behind wool and sleep
There have been several studies that delve deeper into the connection between wool and better sleep. This Woolmark study by the University of Sydney revealed some important findings, including how wool shortens the time it takes to fall asleep, improves sleep quality and duration, and boosts the chances of a deeper and less fragmented sleep.
This research from Holstein Institute compared the moisture wicking capacity of wool and synthetics in the bedroom. Wool blankets of course came out on top thanks to their ability to absorb 50% more moisture than acrylic alternatives.
