There are two major reasons why we choose wool . . .
The first is that wool is a planet friendly fibre, being natural, renewable, sustainable and biodegradable.
The second is that wool is an advanced technical fibre with unique properties and benefits that when woven into a fabric guarantees cosiness.
Our blankets, throws, cushions and scarves, are woven from carefully selected softest pure new wools. We work with New Zealand Merino wool and indigenous wools such as Peruvian alpaca wool, Gotland sheep wool and Mongolian Kashmir goat wool. We believe in fair trade and pay a fair price for these highest grade organic wools. We only partner with farms and mills that ensure sustainable practices for the benefit of rural communities and the environment. We can all make a difference in helping to protect our planet by choosing responsibly-sourced wool and other sustainable organic fibres for our clothing and homewares.
THE MIRACLE FIBRE THAT IS WOOL . . . . . .
Wool is natural
Wool is a protein fibre formed in the skin of animals such as sheep, goats and alpacas. It is nature’s performance fabric and since the Stone Age has been appreciated as one of the most effective forms of all weather protection know to man.
Wool is renewable
As long as there is grass too graze on, every year sheep and alpaca will produce a new fleece, making wool a renewable fibre source. Woolgrowers actively work to safeguard the environment and improve efficiency, endeavouring to make the wool industry sustainable for future generations.
Wool is recyclable & biodegradeable
Wool is one of the most recycled fibres. It is also completely biodegradable and low risk to the planet. At the end of its useful life, wool can be returned to the soil, where it decomposes, releasing valuable nutrients into the ground. Synthetic fibres such as acrylic, nylon and polyester are all oil based plastics with high environmental impact. As they degrade these synthetic yarns produce micro fibres that are choking the planet.
Wool is from amazing animals
We think sheep, goats and alpacas are inspiring and gentle creatures that graze peacefully and grow wonderful wool. We use it to make beautiful and useful textiles and the whole process begins again . . . no depletion, just sustainable and sensible. We partner only with farms that care about the well being of their animals.
Wool is durable
Quality wool textiles are strong, long lasting and hold their shape, looking better for longer. A So Cosy blanket can be old and well used but show no signs of wear.
For this reason we keep our designs timeless and respect the naturalness of the wool, which means our products never go out of style and we help to combat the current throw-away culture.
Wool is a natural insulator
Wool is a hygroscopic fibre. As the humidity of the surrounding air rises and falls, the fibre absorbs and releases water vapour. Heat is generated and retained during the absorption phase, which makes wool a natural insulator. Used in the home our wool throws and bed blankets have been designed to trap warm air against your skin, keeping you cosy and helping to reduce energy costs and carbon emissions.
Wool is breathable
Wool fibres are crimped, and when tightly packed together form millions of tiny pockets of air. This unique structure allows it to absorb and release moisture, either in the atmosphere or perspiration from the wearer, but without compromising its thermal efficiency. We use the best in modern technologies to weave blankets that maximise
both insulation and breathability. Our bed blankets for example create a sleep climate perfect for you that provide deeper sleep and lasting comfort.
Wool is odour resistant
Wool has a large capacity to absorb moisture vapour next to the skin and release it into the air, before bacteria has a chance to develop and produce unpleasant body odour.
Wool is easy to care for
The protective waxy coating on wool fibres makes wool products resistant to staining and they also pick up less dust as wool is naturally anti-static.
Wool is a safe solution
Wool is flame retardant and will often self extinguish. It produces less smoke and fumes making it a safer choice for our homes and our little ones.
As well wool has naturally high levels of UV protection.
Wool is for all seasons
Wool constantly reacts to changes in body temperature, maintaining its wearer’s thermo-physical comfort in both cold and warm weather.
Wool is hypoallergenic
Wool has hypoallergenic and anti-bacterial properties.
We weave many of our our blankets, throws accessories with organic un-dyed wools that haven’t been treated with synthetic chemicals. When we do want some colour we use vegetable dyes.
Wool is at the heart of So Cosy
It is only with this natural miracle fibre that we are able to sustainably produce blankets that are both experientially and physically so beautiful. It was a decade ago now that we first set up shop in London selling our own designs of high quality wool blankets and throws. Since then our passion and knowledge of wool has grown and grown along with our determination to make a positive impact on the world by keeping people cosy whilst safe guarding the environment.
So Cosy is an official ‘Campaign For Wool’ supporter
The Campaign for Wool is a global endeavour initiated by its patron, His Royal Highness The Prince of Wales, in order to raise awareness amongst consumers about the unique, natural, renewable and biodegradable benefits offered by the fibre.
