How to have fun and keep cosy on Bonfire Night

Bonfire Night is almost here, and with many displays and other events off the menu last year due to the Covid-19 pandemic, Bonfire Night 2021 is set to be bigger and better than ever. In the capital, people are even gearing up for Britain’s first ‘green’ Guy Fawkes celebration complete with a virtual bonfire!

Whether you’re heading out to a display or hosting a bonfire night party at home, the following tips and tricks will help you have fun, keep cosy and stay safe so you ‘remember, remember the fifth of November’ for all the right reasons…

Always put safety first

If you’re hosting at home or attending a display with a bonfire, fireworks, sparklers or all of the above, it’s important to discuss safety. Bonfire Night should be a danger-free, fun-filled celebration after all.

Put safety first by wearing gloves and keeping sparklers at arm’s length when lit. Keep lit sparklers away from flammable materials and dispose of them in a metal bucket lined with sand to keep fire risk to a minimum.

If you’re hosting a bonfire or firework display at home, position your display well aware from spectators, and a safe distance from fences, sheds, trees, buildings, and electrical cables. Never leave your bonfire unattended, and never use petrol or paraffin to start the fire. Always have fire safety equipment or at least a bucket of water to hand for any emergencies.

Dress well for the occasion

Now is the time to dig out those winter warmers if you haven’t already done so. When dressing for Bonfire Night, the more layers the better, but you must also keep your choice of clothing breathable.

Accessorise those layers with a woolly hat, scarf and gloves, not forgetting to don a pair of our cosy socks for extra comfort.

Enjoy bonfire night

Take along some home comforts

Merino wool is a great choice for those looking to stay warm, cosy and enjoy excellent breathability, so why not wrap yourself in our 100% extra fine Merino wool Capri Throw?

Here Switchback Travel explains more about Merino wool’s superb temperature regulation and why it makes a must-have accessory not just for winter but all year round:

“One of the reasons that merino wool is so popular is its warmth relative to weight. The fabric has a natural loft that traps heat very efficiently between the fibers, making it warmer than a synthetic of the same weight. But it’s also good in the heat as merino regulates your body temperature really well. Arguably, it’s just as good of a summertime material as it is winter.”

Wrap your mitts around something warm

Preparation is the key to enjoying every minute of your chosen Bonfire Night celebration. Before you depart for your display or head out to your back garden to entertain, prepare a warming drink to wrap your mitts around.

Here are some great recipes for warming drinks to get you started, and if you’re hosting Bonfire Night at home, your guests are certain to love them too!
