Making the most of your garden this autumn

Robin and blankets

Summer may be over but the garden really comes into its own during the autumn months. RHS revealed that autumn is the best season for gardening – the falling temperatures provide optimum conditions for plant life – but it’s also a great time to entertain.

That’s right, don’t let the cooling weather put a stop to your alfresco entertainment plans. Your garden can – and should be – used throughout autumn! In this blog post, we share our top tips for extending the living space into the garden and using it well even as the colder months set in.

Create plenty of cover

The great British weather can be unpredictable at the best of times, especially as we make the transition from summer to autumn. If you haven’t done so already, creating a covered area or even an outdoor room that’s dedicated to relaxation and entertainment will keep your garden usable whatever the weather.

Transform your deck, terrace, or balcony into an outdoor living area, or breathe new life into a neglected corner of your garden, to make space for a practical, comfortable spot that you can spend time in.

Light the way

The darker nights are generally another excuse to pack up your outdoor setup and head inside. But instead of seeing the dark skies as an outdoor entertainment challenge, see them as an opportunity to enjoy your garden with a whole new ambience.

With the right lighting, you can make your garden an incredible place even as daylight fades. Thankfully, as Country Living explains, there are tons of lighting options to choose from:

“Lighting is a great way to add interest and personality to your garden, just make sure they are IP rated weatherproof. Add an uplighter to shine up a wall, tall plants or bamboo to create lowkey ambience. Wall lights which show off a low wattage filament LED bulb look beautiful and last a long time. To create a bit of romance, add still or very gently twinkling lights with some outdoor LED lights in warm white.”

Garden ideasJust add warmth

In addition to ensuring a romantic lighting scheme, a well-placed fire pit adds one thing that autumn is definitely lacking – warmth! With a fire pit, you can snuggle up with your loved ones, toast marshmallows and share stories in the cosiest warmth.

There are so many beautiful fire pit and chiminea designs out there, meaning you’re certain to find a warming addition that suits your style, space and budget.

Accessorise for autumn

There are other ways that you can cosy up outdoors as temperatures drop. The same rules for creating your own cosy nook indoors after all apply outside, which means soft furnishings are musts!

As well as helping you bring the indoors out and ensuring a stylish garden space in the process, accessorising with autumn in mind using our quality, natural, ethical and hugely comfortable blankets, throws and homewares will keep those chills at bay.
