With the weather warming and so many lovely, long weekends to enjoy this month thanks to those bank holidays, now couldn’t be a better time to dig out your So Cosy picnic blanket and head outdoors for a spot of alfresco dining.

Whether you’re pitching up for a picnic at a local beauty spot, dining in your own backyard or packing for one of these family-friendly festivals, the following posh picnic recipes will provide yummy treats that can be enjoyed by all under the summer sun.

The coronation quiche

Things don’t get much posher than a recipe recommendation from the royal family! Aptly named ‘the coronation quiche’, this recipe is the official dish of King Charles III’s coronation. This isn’t the first time the royal family have shared their favourite recipes to mark a very special occasion as Newsround details:

“The quiche is the latest in a long line of official royal snacks. Queen Elizabeth II’s coronation dish in 1953 was ‘Poulet reine Elizabeth’, or coronation chicken, as it later became known. The chicken in creamy curry sauce is often found in sandwiches, but can also be used in salads. And for her platinum jubilee, which celebrated 70 years of the Queen on the throne, we had ‘platinum pudding’, which was a lemon and almond trifle dessert.”

Containing in-season ingredients such as spinach, broad beans and fresh tarragon, alongside a good helping of cheddar cheese, the coronation quiche is a great recipe that can be rustled up for any picnic.

Muffuletta squares

Now for a picnic recipe from across the pond. These muffuletta squares are the poshest sandwich you’re ever likely to eat.

The stuffed sandwich hails from New Orleans, and is a bitesize treat with some truly epic ingredients, including mozzarella, salami, Emmental cheese, mortadella sausage, and a homemade olive salad.

Camembert and roasted grape picnic loaf

For more cheesy goodness, served a little differently, try this camembert and roasted grape picnic loaf. The recipe combines two classics that are the perfect pairing on a cheese board to create a truly delectable, utterly gooey sourdough sandwich.

It takes just 25 minutes to prepare and needs 30 minutes in the oven, but serves 6 to 8 people to guarantee a new picnic favourite that all the family can chow down on.
